The First Post
Sorry it took me so long to do this. I started by writing a journal - which, as I noted in the very first entry, I knew would be tough for me. I let an entire year slip by and only managed three entries. So yeah, sorry - I really wanted to do better.
As you probably know if you’re reading this, I’m a software engineer by trade. So, building a custom blog (written in Jekyll so it’s static and portable) feels like a much better fit - something I can actually keep updated more often.
This last year has been both the best and one of the hardest of my life. It’s the best because of you. You’re perfect. A blessing. You’ve brought something out of me I didn’t know existed - a love so deep, so pure, so focused that it fills me with excitement for the future. Your future. And how Donnally and I can help shape it as you grow up. Honestly, if you hadn’t chosen to join our family, this year would’ve been much tougher.
I won’t get into why it was also difficult here - I’ll write more about that later in this project. My plan is to retroactively post pictures from the past year and write about what we were up to. Over time, this site should become a collection of all the fun memories we’ve made.
Speaking of pictures - let’s talk about the image for this first post. Look how happy you are! That photo was taken in Amsterdam. That’s right - before you were even a year old, you had a passport and were already a world traveler. Pretty cool. I was there for work, and you and Mom joined me to explore and hang out. Once my conference wrapped up, I got to join in the fun too.
I can’t wait to take you everywhere. So many trips ahead.
Love, Dad
