This picture was taken when your grandma was very sick. It was a hard time for your mom and me in so many ways. I was away from you both a lot, taking care of her, but you and Mom would come visit, and we’d stay at a little hotel in Palm Springs together.

You love the water. You love pools, you love your bath — which is exactly what makes this photo so funny to me. You were having the best time that day — splashing around, watching the other kids, swimming with your mom and me — but the moment I snapped this picture, the look on your face was anything but joyful 😂.

You crack me up, kiddo. You probably just wanted to get back to watching everyone else or didn’t feel like posing for the camera. Either way, you looked like you hated swimming, which couldn’t be further from the truth.

It was a fantastic day in the middle of a really tough time.
